Hey there, if you're a runner over 50 years old and you want to get started with the Maffetone style, low heart rate training, you don't have to read a 500 page book to get going. So stay tuned, and let me show you a better way that I've developed to get you going right away.
Hopefully, you have at least some idea that low heart rate training is very beneficial for us older runners. If not, you can read my article to learn why.
However, there are two problems you'll run into when you want to get started.
You'll have to read Dr. Phil Maffetone's 500 page, "The Big Book of Endurance Training and Racing".
You'll find out that his MAF formula results in a very low heart rate for us older runners so that it's difficult to run even on the flats!
That's what I did. It took me a while to figure out everything I was supposed to do as far as nutrition, running and when I wasn't running.
And, I couldn't run at the calculated MAF heart rate when I first started.
I made a lot of mistakes, and then eventually, I had some success. I could run faster, at a lower heart rate then ever before at over 60 years old!
After sharing my training with some other runners, they asked for more of a simple roadmap to get started.
So what I did was I created what I call the "Forever Runner Method".
I developed this method specifically for runners in their fifties, sixties and seventies to effortlessly run faster without the fear of pain or injury. And my method worked great for my coaching clients.
Now, I finally have it written down in a Book. A 50 page PDF.
What I've done is taken out all the fluff and put down a very concise, focused, nine step process for you to go through, to essentially become a Forever Runner.
What that means is you can effortlessly run faster without worry about pain and injury, even as you grow older.
It isn't just about running. So in, in the book, I talk about three main areas, nutrition, running of course, and movement. Because what you do when you're not running is almost more important than when you're running.
Each chapter has specific action steps to guide you through the program.
