Is NA Beer the Way to Go Now?

Oct 26, 2025

Sunday with Herb

You know I think the only reason I got into running in my early 30's, was it gave me a good excuse to have pizza and beer with friends.

Over the years, having a couple of beers with friends has been my main source of alcohol. I normally don't drink much wine or hard liquor.

Of course, during the summer, I'll have a few more during the week after working in the yard or just chillin. But I've mananged not to let alcohol be a big part of my life.

I do love all the cool varieties of beer though, and if I could, I'd probably have one every night.

But a couple of months ago, after suffering a tough vertigo attack, having alcohol was the last thing on my mind. I was already walking like a drunk without drinking!

Withing a couple of weeks, I was feeling better and decided to try an NA beer to spice things up. It wasn't too bad!

It's great that there are now a some different brands available, even some of the big players(Corona NA is great!). You can get them in grocery stores, local bars... Heck, you can get cases of Athletica at Cosco!

I'm also fortunate that we have a local craft brewery, Self Care, that made the switch to NA a few years ago and has excellent brews and they ship nationwide.

So now I can have a (NA) beer anytime I want.

I'll still enjoy an occasional regular beer, but most of the time, I'm having a NA.

No amount of alcohol is really good for you, and this is a great way to wean yourself off.

Have a great week!

The 180 formula that saved my running career
"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." - Henry Ford Ā  It's Monday morning 5am and I'm down at the CrossFit gym doing my warm-up. Just an easy spin on the stationary bike and some floor exercises. I sit down on the bench and this warm flush comes over me, I get light headed and start to sweat profusely, then the all too familiar chest pain comes on....
What are you training for?
Sunday with Herb Now is usually the time I would be laying out my goal race for next year and other races I may want to do either as training or just fun. In the past, my goal race has been something challenging, like the Teanaway 100 miler I did a couple of years ago, and lately, the Waldo 100K. I made the lottery for Waldo in 2024, but couldn't do it for heart attack recovery reasons and agai...
The Foundation I Wished I'd Built at 60
Dr. Peter Attia's 5 longevity tactics that could have prevented my heart attack Hey runners! I turned 60 and did everything 'right' to level up my running—more miles, harder sessions, bigger goals. The result? A heart attack that nearly ended everything. That disaster taught me what Dr. Peter Attia has been preaching for years.
